Three Ways We Use Technology and Techniques to Improve Smiles

In so many ways, today’s dentistry is truly a miracle of modern science. From laser periodontal therapy in Orlando and cosmetic procedures, to bite adjustments and bone grafting, dentists today can address just about any issue you might have with your teeth and gums, and do it in a comfortable and efficient way that will have you smiling again! Our offices use the very best and latest in technology and procedures to help our patients improve and maintain their oral health, making sure to devise treatment plans that are as minimally invasive as possible. Here, we’ll look at a few ways we improve lives, one smile at a time.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are more popular than ever before, and for some very good reasons:

  • They are designed to look, feel, and function like your natural teeth, giving patients the confidence to smile, eat, and engage in activities without worrying about their appearance.
  • With proper care and maintenance, implants last as long as conventional restorations on teeth. People in good health have the best chance for successful implants.
  • Dental implants are anchored in your jawbone just like natural teeth. Over time they will help preserve the jawbone and significantly reduce bone resorption. Implants also allow you to chew your food more thoroughly and speak more clearly.

Dental implants start as small titanium posts that are embedded into the jawbone where teeth used to be, and once fully integrated, act as anchors for bridges, crowns, or dentures. There are two main types of implants — those that are embedded under the gum line, and those that sit above it — and some patients are better suited for one over the other. Our staff will be able to assess which type of implant is best for you.

Laser Periodontal Therapy in Orlando

Another popular procedure that our offices practice frequently is laser surgery. This technique uses a special laser light in place of more traditional cutting tools, to remove diseased gum and the bacteria that surround it. Laser periodontal therapy in Orlando is often prescribed to treat gum disease because it is less invasive, results in quicker healing times, and can mean less of the discomfort, bleeding, and swelling that typically accompanies more traditional cut-and-suture periodontal surgery.

Scaling and Root Planing

When gum disease has reached a certain point in a patient, and a routine cleaning of his or her teeth isn’t enough, our offices often rely on scaling and root planing to put patients back on track toward good oral health. We use special tools to gently and safely scrape the surface of teeth to remove plaque and tartar, and then smooth the root’s surface, because plaque and tartar are less likely to attach to smooth areas. Scaling and planing allows teeth and their roots to heal from bacterial attack and encourages gum tissue to reestablish a tight bond around each tooth, helping to seal out food particles that can encourage bacterial growth.

All these procedures and techniques are part of a suite of services we offer our patients and that can help you feel good about smiling again, too!
